Agbani Darego

Ibiagbanidokibubo " Agbani " Asenite Darego (* 1983) is a Nigerian model. She won the 2001 title of Miss World.

Life

Darego won the 2001 national beauty contest Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria ( MBGN ). She also gave the Face of Africa Competition in part, a model contest, but failed in the first round. While a student at the University of Port Harcourt she represented Nigeria at the Miss Universe, held in Bayamon (Puerto Rico). She finished the competition as the only colored at the seventh position.

Miss World

In November 2001, Agbani Darego took in Sun City (South Africa) in part at the 51st Miss World contest, which was hosted by American talk show host Jerry Springer. The then 18 - year-old won in the final round before Miss Scotland and Miss Aruba. She was the first black Miss World from Africa.

Originally the subsequent election in 2002 Daregos home country of Nigeria to be held. Unrest and a difficult political situation, especially in the north of the country meant that the final choice in London (United Kingdom ) was held.

In October 2010, Darego took part in the 60th Miss World beauty pageant in Sanya China as a juror. There they chose, among others, together with the former title winners Denise Perrier ( Miss World 1953), Ann Sidney ( Miss World 1964), Mary Stävin ( Miss World 1977), María Julia Mantilla ( Miss World 2004), Zhang Zilin ( Miss World 2007) and Xenia Sukhinova ( Miss World 2008), the 18 -year-old U.S. citizen Alexandria Mills the winner.

More career

After her reign as Miss World Agbani Darego left 2002, the University of Port Harcourt. She signed a contract with the modeling agency Next Model Management and worked in Europe on her career as a model. The client was, among other things, the French cosmetics company L' Oreal.
