Agder

Agder is a historical region and landscape in Norway, on the origin of the names of the Fylken Aust -Agder (East - Agder) and Vest- Agder relate ( West Agder ). Today, rather the term Sørlandet ( Southland ) is used for this area, which is roughly in this area.

Name

Later Agder, after a decision of the Gulatinget ( Norwegian Thing ) into a Fylke ( EGDA fylki ) converted. Administratively belonged to the Fylke Agder Agdesiden len ( Lehn - Agder ), and was one of the nine most important fiefs in the 16th century in Norway. From 1902 there was the rival Agder name Sørlandet ( Southland ). This name was originally intended to include as today's Fylken of Agder a much larger area. Sørlandet is the name of one of five Norwegian parts of the country with the city of Kristiansand. The name Sørlandet was deliberately chosen to integrate the area around the capital city Kristiansand.

Agder currently includes the following former areas: Lister, Lindesnesregionen, Kristiansand regions Setesdalen and Østre Agder. Agder currently has 271 381 inhabitants together (1 October 2007 ) and the area covers 16,438 square kilometers, with a total of 30 municipalities. The Norwegian daily Agderposten appears in Arendal, and the magazine Agder Flekkefjord Tidende published in Flekkefjord (Vest - Agder). The University of Agder has locations in Kristiansand, Grimstad and Arendal. The Agderparken is a large commercial area in Arendal.

The Agder bispedømme ( Diocese Adger ) is a former name for the present diocese of Agder and Telemark ( Agder og Telemark bispedømme ), the Norwegian state church.

The catchment area of ​​Agder Lagmannsrett ( Agder Court of Appeals ) includes the Fylken in Agder Telemark and Vestfold.
