Agethorst

Agethorst is a municipality in the district of Steinburg, in Schleswig- Holstein.

Geography and transport

Agethorst is about 10 km northwest of Itzehoe in a rural environment. Direct north-east runs the Federal Highway 23 from Itzehoe to heather, southwest to the parallel federal highway 431

History

From 1908 to 1977, the Agethorster cable car was in operation, a 13 km long ropeway which the raw material was transported to the sound of Agethorst Alsenschen Portland cement factory to Itzehoe. She was the longest cable car in Germany. Even today, the ones described as Alsens flooded clay pit opencast mining holes of the industrial history of the community.

Policy

Since the local elections of 2008, the voters Community KWG has all seven seats on the municipal council.

Coat of arms

The three leaves the coat of arms are reminiscent of the once very wooded landscape. They also refer to a possible interpretation of the name, after the basic word " nest" of " scrub ", " bush " or " grove " is derived. The Three mountain in chief refers to the " block mountain" in the southwest of the community, which together with 53 meters the highest point in the municipality.
