Aggtelek

Aggtelek [ ɒk tɛlɛk ː ] ( German Agtelek ) is a town in Borsod -Abaúj -Zemplén

Geographical Location

Aggtelek located 50 km north- west of Miskolc in northern Hungary near the Slovak border. Nearby is the Agteleker caves (also Baradla caves called ) to find one of the most beautiful caves in the country. Neighboring municipalities are Jósvafő 5 km, 6 km and Trizs Domica / Slovakia 5 km. The city is nächstgelegendste Szendrő 30 km away.

History

The area should have been inhabited since prehistoric times. After the Mongols had left the area, it was uninhabited for a long time. Aggtelek first time was mentioned in 1295 under the name Ogogteluk.

In 1858, the area was destroyed by fire, and during the Second World War caused the running near the front great destruction.

Thanks to its environment Aggtelek enjoys a high rate of tourism. The Aggtelek Karst and the Baradla Domica cave as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
