F2

The steam power plant Agios Dimitrios (Greek Ατμοηλεκτρικού Σταθμού ( ΑΗΣ ) Άγιος Δημήτριος ) is a lignite-fired power plant near the village of Agios Dimitrios about 15 km northeast of the city of Kozani in Western Macedonia in northern Greece.

The power plant is the most powerful on the installed capacity in Greece. It consists of five blocks with an installed electrical capacity of about 300 MW, which were taken in the years 1987-1997 in operation:

Operator is the great Greek power company Dimosia Epichirisi Ilektrismou ( ΔΕΗ ).

The verfeuerte lignite dates from around 10 km north-west open pit near Ptolemais, where the fuel is transported via conveyor belt systems directly to the power plant. For the same mines either from the same area are also nearby major power plants cardia ( ΑΗΣ Καρδία40.40839921.787777 ), Ptolemais ( ΑΗΣ Πτολεμαΐδα40.48077321.728425 ) Amyntaio ( ΑΗΣ Αμύνταιο40.61903421.683407 ) and Florina ( ΑΗΣ Φλώρινα40.81153621.601095 ) supplies.

According to a study of the WWF from 2007, it is the power plant with the highest emissions of carbon dioxide per kilowatt hour ( kWh) of electricity in Europe.

The three chimneys of the plant are 174 meters high.
