Aglibol

Aglibol ( Chariots of Baal ) is the name of a Semitic god, who was especially venerated in Palmyra with Malakbel. Both they are sometimes referred to as the holy brothers, with Aglibol stood in rank above Malakbel.

Both deities were in the city a sanctuary, which was called the sacred garden. The temple could not be located so far, but it is known from a representation. Also in dedicatory inscriptions they are usually called together. The different spelling of the name Baal ingredient (bol and bel ), however, makes it likely that both deities were initially independently and were connected only in the course of time. This may have to do with the cycle of nature, which is also the name of their sanctuary implies. They were certainly deities of vegetation and animals. Aglibol also appears as a lunar deity, and together with Baal they often formed a triad
