Agloe, New York

The non-existent place Agloe, New York is an example of a plagiarism case. In the 1930s, the founder of General Drafting, Otto G. Lindberg and his assistant, Ernest Alpers from the initial letters of their names created this place and drew him north of Roscoe at an intersection in the Catskill Mountains in Esso (or Exxon) maps one. Later, this place also appeared in other maps, because someone had built at this intersection a business and used as a place name Agloe - as this name seemed to Esso maps.

This fictional location plays an important role in the young adult novel Margo's tracks ( in the original: Paper Towns ) by John Green.
