Agnes of Hesse-Kassel
Agnes of Hesse-Cassel ( born May 14, 1606 Kassel, † May 28 1650 in Dessau ) was a princess of Hesse- Kassel and by marriage Princess of Anhalt- Dessau.
Life
Agnes was a daughter of the Landgrave Moritz of Hesse- Kassel (1572-1632) from his marriage with Juliane (1587-1643), daughter of Count John of Nassau- Dillenburg. Trained with her siblings Agnes mastered six languages and composed music.
On May 18, 1623, she married Prince Johann Casimir of Dessau Anhalt- Dessau ( 1596-1660 ). Agnes succeeded through oral and written negotiations with generals alleviate the plight of the country during the Thirty Years' War. The Duchess was a wise housekeeper and mathematician. 1645, it established in Nischwitz a " feast house," emerged from the later castle Oranienbaum.
