Agogo (Ghana)

Agogo is a city in Asante Akim North District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It is located about 80 kilometers east of the regional capital Kumasi.

In 1970 about 14,710 people lived Agogo. The population had increased to 18 879 in 1984. In 2000, approximately 28 271 people lived in the city. Projections for January 2007 call a total population of 32,859.

In the city are available with the Agogo State College and Collins Secondary / Senior Secondary Schools Technical two. It has also been furnished with the Agogo Nurses Training College is a training school for nurses. In Agogo is one of the three ordinary seats of the Presbyterian University College. Here are the famous schools for the Study of Agriculture, Science and Medicine at the Presbyterian University College. Other seats of the University are located in Abetifi and Akropong.

The population has access to a larger hospital with a laboratory. It also serves as a research station of the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research ( KCCR ) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi. Through this connection, there is also a cooperation with the Bernhard -Nocht- Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg. In addition, two smaller clinics in operation, of which are staffed with a medical assistant. In the catchment area of Agogo six traditional birth attendants operate. By eleven outlets to supply the population is organized with medication. A pharmacy opened in 1999 in Agogo.
