Agon Shu

Agon- Shuu (Japanese阿含 宗, German " school of Agama ") is a so-called New Religion in Japan whose teachings are based on the Agama sutras of Theravāda Buddhism. The organization was founded in 1954 by seiyū Kiriyama (* 1921) founded in 1981 and legally recognized. By his own account of 1989 Agon- Shuu had 206 606 members.

As there was seiyū Kiriyama in a difficult phase of life due to illness, he finally felt saved by the Bodhisattva Kannon Juntei. He then in 1954 in Yokohama founded the "Society of mercy Kannon Bosatsu of " (Japanese Kannon Jikei -kai ). He devoted himself to the study of divination, the Lotus Buddhism and Shingon Buddhism, which he reinterpreted in their own way and looked in the Buddhist traditions of Sri Lanka and India after their roots.

In addition to the Juntei Kannon of Shakyamuni Buddha is worshiped since 1986, whose relics are said to have Kiriyama obtained from high places from Sri Lanka in 1986. As scripture applies the Agama, a font of Theravāda Buddhism, treat, especially the Nirvana.

Agon- Shuu has 1358 priests (own data from 1989 ), in three municipalities in Japan ( which are regarded as public bodies ) serve the approximately 200,000 believers. The members take part in particular with the help of mass media and modern means of communication in the religious life. This includes areas such as meditation, life coaching, nutrition science and more.
