Agonglo

Agonglo was the eighth King of Dahomey. He succeeded his father Kpengla and reigned from 1789 to 1797.

Agonglo introduced numerous reforms: Taxes were cut, and he made the common people during the annual meeting major gifts. After the conquest phase of his father Agonglo consolidated the dynasty. In addition, however, he was also successful in some battles and the Kingdom prospered under his rule. His symbol was the pineapple. It is also noteworthy that Agonglo was the first Dahomey'schen kings, who took to wife a European. One of his wives was a Dutch mestiza.

On Agonglo succeeded by his eldest son Adandozan.
