The Agoniatiten ( Agoniatitida ) are an order of jungpaläozoischen Ammonites ( Ammonoidea ). You are important index fossils in the Devonian.

Features

The types of housing vary considerably, from slightly curved, over loose rolled up too tight rolled shapes. Some group have thin disc-shaped housing, other groups thick and clumsy body. In the oldest forms of navel is pierced ( " navel gap" ). The basic formula is praiseworthy EL. During the evolution of this feature is strongly modified subdivision of the E- lobe, development of an umbilical lobe and an I - lobe. The Praiseworthy are usually very simple rounded in specialized forms but already some acuminate or finger- shaped.
