Features
The moths reach a wingspan of 19-23 millimeters. They have an ocher base color and a dark brown to black markings. The wings are folded flat and overlapping in the rest position.

Way of life
The larvae feed on various thistles and knapweed (Centaurea sp.). More fodder plant burdock ( Arctium sp.), Serratula sp., Eberwurzen ( Carlina sp.) And scabious ( knautia sp.). The caterpillars are brownish and greenish colored in later stages and reach a length of nine to 17 millimeters. They begin their development in a leaf mine and put them later under a continuous web. The species is nocturnal and is attracted by the light.

Agonopterix arenella forms one generation per year, which flies from May to early August.
