Agop Terzan

Agop Terzan ( born October 31, 1927 in Istanbul ) is a French astronomer of Armenian descent.

Life

At the University of Istanbul in 1945, he received the bachelor's degree in mathematics and astronomy, and in 1949 a Masters degree in astronomy. In 1956 he moved to France. He received his doctorate in 1965 at the University of Lyon. In 1980 he became a professor.

Terzan is a member of the French National Astronomy Committee and the International Astronomical Union ( IAU).

In the 1960s, Terzan discovered 710 variable stars and eleven named after him globular clusters: Terzan 1, Terzan 2, Terzan 3, Terzan 4, Terzan 5, Terzan 6, Terzan 7, Terzan 8, Terzan 9, Terzan 10 and Terzan 11 In subsequent years, he discovered more 4430 variable stars, 158 diffuse nebulae, 124 galaxies and 1428 stars with high proper motion.
