Agostino Abbagnale

Agostino Abbagnale ( born August 25, 1966 in Pompei) is a former Italian rower and triple Olympic gold medalist and multiple world champion.

His first gold medal he won at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul in the quadruple sculls. Shortly after he got thrombosis, which led to a five-year mandatory break. Thus he missed the Olympics in 1992.

At the 1996 Olympics he was able to participate again and won together with Davide Tizzano, with whom he was together successfully as early as 1988, in the double sculls his second gold medal.

2003 forced him recurrence of thrombosis to the End of career.

Agostino Abbagnale is the younger brother of 2 times 7 times Olympic champion and world champion Giuseppe and Carmine Abbagnale Abbagnale that dominated this class of boat in two with coxswain in the 1980s and early 1990s.

FISA, the International Rowing Federation, awarded him with the 2006 Thomas Keller Medal.
