Agostino Masucci

Agostino Masucci (* 1690 in Rome, † October 19, 1768 ) was an Italian historical painter, portrait painter and draftsman.

Life

Masucci was a pupil of Andrea Procaccini (1671-1734), the last pupil of Carlo Maratta. He was artistically influenced by Guido Reni and Raphael. In his painting he was the pioneer of a precursor of Classicism that flourished as early as the 1720/1730er years in Rome, and a new kind of portraiture. His patron was the Queen of Spain and painter Isabel de Farnesio.

His students included Pompeo Batoni, Gavin Hamilton and Johann Zoffany and the two brothers Giuseppe and Stefano Pozzi.

His son was the painter Lorenzo Masucci ( 1726-1785 ).
