Agostino Tassi

Agostino Tassi, Agostino actually Buonamico (* around 1580 in Rome, † 1644 ) was an Italian painter.

Life

Tassi was educated in Florence, where it influenced the seascapes of Paul Bril. He is known for his extensive decoration of the Palazzo del Quirinale and the Lancellotti palace in Rome, where he feigned architectural backgrounds in an original way. He also painted in the Villa Doria Pamphili in Rome and worked as an engraver. To 1612, he took the young Claude Lorrain ( 1600-82 ) as an apprentice to his house. He raped the painter Artemisia Gentileschi, who had been sent to him by her father to study.
