Agrippina Vaganova

Agrippina Jakovlevna Vaganova (Russian Агриппина Яковлевна Ваганова, scientific transliteration Agrippina Jakovlevna Vaganova; * 14 Junijul / June 26 1879greg in Saint Petersburg, .. † November 5, 1951 in Leningrad) was a Russian ballet dancer and ballet teacher and the founder of the Vaganova method, which is a world basis for the training of dancers in classical ballet today.

Biography

Vaganova began in 1889 with her ​​ballet training at the Imperial Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg. In 1915 she was ballerina at the Mariinsky Theatre. In 1921 she retired from a career as a stage dancer and devoted himself from that time working as a ballet teacher for which she obtained in the following years in the Ballet area world famous. One of her students was the ballerina Galina Ulanova.
