Agris Saviels

Agris Saviels ( born January 15, 1982 in Riga, Latvian SSR) is a Latvian ice hockey player who is under contract with HK Kompanion Kiev from the Professional Hockey League since July 2012.

Career

Agris Saviels began his playing career at HK Riga Lido Nafta, for the first time he played in the 1996/97 season in the Latvian Hockey League. In 1998 he moved to North America to the Notre Dame Hounds, a junior team from Saskatchewan. A year later the Owen Sound Platers of the Ontario Hockey League took him under contract before he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2000 by the Colorado Avalanche in the second round to 63rd.

In the season 2000/ 01 he granted his debut with the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League, but played until the summer of 2002 Owen Sound. After that, he was employed by the Avalanche in the Bears without ever challenging an NHL game. In the summer of 2005, therefore, he opted for a move to Europe, where he played for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the second Russian league. In the season 2006/ 07 he stood at HK SKP Zilina in the Slovak Extraliga under contract. In the summer of 2007, he initially joined the Herning Blue Fox in the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen, but could not convince the leaders there and signed for Premier League rivals Odense Ishockey Club. In the summer of 2008 he was taken from Dinamo Riga of the Kontinental Hockey League ( KHL ) contract, but could not prevail. Therefore he moved in January to Metallurg Zhlobin in the Belarusian Extraliga. In early September 2010, he signed a one-year contract with the HC Valpellice from the Italian Serie A1. After another game year in Italy's top league, this time in the service of WSV Sterzing Broncos, followed in the summer of 2012, the contract was signed at HK Kompanion Kiev from the Professional Hockey League.

Internationally

Agris Saviels has played in three World Junior Championships for the Latvian U18 and U20 youth team. In addition to the appeal to the squad for the Olympic Winter Games 2006, he was employed at several World Men Championships (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008).
