Água de Pena is a comune ( freguesia ) in a circle ( concelho ) of Machico, in the northeast of the Portuguese island of Madeira. June 30, 2011 had Água de Pena 2437 inhabitants on an area of 5.1 km ².

History

Zarco, the new discoverers of Madeira, landed in 1419 in Machico. It was followed by the colonization of the area. 1560 Água de Pena was a separate municipality.

In connection with the extension of Madeira Airport opened in 2000 the runway was extended to in the municipal area.

The municipality ( Freguesia ) Água de Pena consists of the following villages ( sitios ) and new housing estates ( bairros ):

• Igreja ( church office)
• Lombo
• Queimada
• Bairro da bemposta
• Bairro dos Pescadores
