Aguadulce, Coclé

Aguadulce is a small town on the Pan-American road 197 km west of the capital, Panama City, the Central American country of Panama. Aguadulce is the largest city in the province of Veraguas. It has 17,237 inhabitants ( 2005). Important are its salt pans.

The exact founding date of the city that completely is called San Juan Bautista de Aguadulce is unknown; a settlement was in any case already in the 18th century, even if 1848 is the official founding date of the 19th October, when the provincial chamber of Panama - then a province of Colombia - the city gave their official privileges.

In addition to the production of salt in the salt pans is always the sugar production of meaning, as there are in the area numerous sugar cane plantations. According to Aguadulce has a salt and sugar museum (founded in 1998). Also worth visiting is the nearby Valle de Antón. As a popular tourist destination Aguadulce has several hotels and a number of restaurants.

The population growth is 1.5% per year, 1960, Aguadulce only 6053 inhabitants.
