El Aguajito

El Aguajito ( known as the Santa Ana also ) is a caldera on the Gulf of California just to the northeast of the Tres Virgenes volcano and northwest of Caldera La Reforma in Mexico. Its diameter is about 10 km, the highest elevation is 1300 m.

The rhyolitic caldera was created in a massive eruption about 760,000 years ago (K -Ar dated). Most of the ejected material was deposited in the Gulf of California. Some rhyolitic lava domes on the northern edge were dated at 500000-40000 years, dacitic lava domes some at the south end of the caldera appear to be older. The geological Cimarron column crosses the caldera center in a north northeast - südsüdwestlichen orientation. At the southern end of the caldera there are hot springs. While geothermal exploration seismic activities were recorded.
