Aguilares, Argentina

Aguilares is the capital of the department of Río Chico in the southwestern part of the province of Tucumán in northwestern Argentina. The city is situated in a plain at the foot of the Sierras del Aconquija at the Ruta Nacional 38, between the River Medina in the north and the Arroyo Barrientos in the south and 85 kilometers from the provincial capital San Miguel de Tucumán away. Aguilares has 32,494 inhabitants (2001, INDEC ) and is known as the city of Avenidas, because of its wide boulevards and its carnival parades.

Climate

The climate in summer varies between warm and hot, it's rainy and semi- moist; in winter it is cool and dry ( subtropical climate with dry season). The mean temperatures in summer 25 degrees Celsius, 20 degrees Celsius in the autumn, winter and spring 13 degrees Celsius of 20 degrees Celsius. The annual average is 14.3 to 25.7 degrees Celsius, with an average annual temperature of 19.2 degrees Celsius. The annual rainfall can reach 920 millimeters. The period with the most rainfall is the time from November to March; the lowest rainfall occurred between June and September.

History

The land on which the city Aguilares was built in the late 16th century was part of the lands that had been Luis de Medina is over. They were known as the Estancia de San Luis and the fertile soils were ground for later settlement.

As the first public school was opened in 1870, these are called Los Aguilares, after the largest landowners in that time, Don Pedro de Aguilar. 1875 is the region opened up for agricultural use, and since 1883 the small settlement given the name Villa de Aguilares. The development plan of the town dates of January 1889 and is signed by the engineer Modesto Sosa, determined as the eastern outskirts of the railway station.

The arrival of the first passenger train El Provincial (Line: La Madrid - San Miguel de Tucumán ) in 1889 spurred the agricultural development of the place, especially the expansion of sugar cane cultivation and the cultivation of vegetables and fruits.

The formation of a community is characterized by the construction of the parish church in 1894 and a social center in 1896. Years later, on 25 May 1901 the central square of the municipality is set. The rapid economic development of the town in a few decades lead to the award of city status on 23 December 1915. Mayor is Ramón Simón. In the years 1947-1980 Aguilares experienced a further population growth. The number of new district is growing and the spatial extent of Aguilares beyond the originally specified local limits.

Economy

In Aguilares are two important Ingenios (sugar refineries) resident ( Ingenio Ingenio Aguilares and Santa Barbara ). There is also a large sports shoe company, Alpargatas. The agricultural activities outside the sugar sector focus on vegetables, citrus fruits, tobacco, and grain.
