Agustín Melgar Olympic Velodrome

The Agustín Melgar Olympic Velodrome is a velodrome in Mexico City. It is part of the Ciudad Deportiva sports complex de La Magdalena Mixiuhca. It was named after the young cadet Agustín Melgar, who fell during the Mexican- American War at the Battle of Chapultepec on ​​September 13, 1847. Melgar is one of the Niños Héroes.

History

The Velodrome was built for the Olympic Summer Games in 1968, the construction took on 6 May 1967 to September 1968. The sports complex was designed by Jorge Ignacio and Andres Escalante Legorreta. The design of the web came from Herbert Schürmann from Münster. The web of an African hardwood is 333.33 meters long and seven meters wide. She has a slope of 39 degrees in the turns.
