Aharon Megged

Aharon Megged ( born November 2, 1920 in Wloclawek, Poland) is an Israeli writer, playwright and journalist.

Life

In 1926 he came with his parents to Palestine, where he grew up in Ra'anana and more than twelve years has been a member of the kibbutz Sdot Jam. He was co-founder and editor of fifteen years of literary weekly magazine Masa and worked as an editor for various other newspapers and magazines, among other things, for Davar. From 1968 to 1971 he was cultural attaché at the Israeli embassy in London.

He has now published 35 books that have been translated into various languages. His plays have been and are listed in Israeli theaters, including the Israeli national theater Habima. Aharon Megged is married to the writer Ida Tsurit, with whom he has two sons: Eyal Megged ( writer ) and Amos Megged ( a historian at the University of Haifa).

Awards

Among other things, he was awarded the Brenner Prize, the SY Agnon Prize and the Prime Minister's Prize.
