Ahavat Olam

Ahavat Olam ( אַהֲבַת עוֹלָם, dt Eternal Love) is the second prayer, which is recited during the Jewish evening prayer Maariv. It is the parallel blessing to Ahava Rabba, which is not referred to during the Shacharit. Due to a compromise Ahava Rabba is recited ( in the morning) and Ahavat Olam to Maariw evening to Shacharit. The Talmud provides various time points available when the prayer must be put forward. Because Ahava Rabba is longer than Ahavat Olam, Ahava Rabba is in the morning, and Ahavat Olam raised in the evening. It is also a thanksgiving to God for the gift of the Torah.

" אַהֲבַת עולָם בֵּית יִשרָאֵל עַמְּךָ אָהָבְתָּ. תּורָה וּמִצְות חֻקִּים וּמִשְׁפָּטִים אותָנוּ לִמַּדְתָּ. עַל כֵּן ה ' אֱלהֵינוּ בְּשָׁכְבֵנוּ וּבְקוּמֵנוּ נָשיחַ בְּחֻקֶּיךָ. וְנִשמַח בְּדִבְרֵי תורָתֶךָ וּבְמִצְותֶיךָ לְעולָם וָעֶד: כִּי הֵם חַיֵּינוּ וְארֶךְ יָמֵינוּ וּבָהֶם נֶהְגֶּה יומָם וָלָיְלָה: וְאַהֲבָתְךָ אַל תָּסִיר מִמֶּנּוּ לְעולָמִים. בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה ה '. אוהֵב עַמּו יִשרָאֵל "

" An eternal love You have the house of Yisrael turned toward Thy people, have teaching and commandment, laws and jurisdictions taught us. Therefore, God is our God, when we lie down and when we get up, we meditate on Your laws and rejoice with the words Your teaching and Your commandments eternal time; because si are our life and the length of our days, and with them our thoughts employ, day & night. May you Your love in ancient times not escape us, blessed are You God, who loves His people Yisrael. "
