Ahhotep I.

Ahhotep I ( also Aahotep I., Iahhotep I.; * about 1575 BC; † around 1530 BC) was an ancient Egyptian queen of the 17th dynasty and probably wife of Seqenenre, who after the death of her alleged Senachtenre father succeeded to the throne.

Family

Ahhotep I was probably the daughter of Tetischeri and Senachtenre. Other possible siblings are next Seqenenre, they probably married later, including Ahhotep II and Kamose known.

It is probably identical with the mother of the king's daughters Henutempet Ahmose, Ahmose and Ahmose Nebetta Tumerisi, whose father was probably Seqenenre. Furthermore, it is perhaps identical with the Ahhotep, considered the mother of the ( Great) princess Ahmose and the princess Ahmose - Scheri that are clearly identified as daughters of Seqenenre. Also they could identical with Ahhotep III. be applicable together with Seqenenre as parents of the Elder King Ahmose son. It can not be entirely ruled out that she was married to Kamose instead Seqenenre.

With Seqenenre Ahhotep I. had, among other things, potentially, the daughter of Ahmose Nefertari, and the son of Ahmose I, who around 1550 BC at the time of his succession to the throne about ten years old. Investigations of his mummy revealed the finding that he died at the age of 35 relatively young.

Ahhotep I. as " Vereinerin Egypt "

In Egyptology Ahhotep applies mostly as I. " Vereinerin Egypt which expelled the Hyksos ". After the death of Kamose Ahhotep I. took first for her minor son Ahmose I the government. On a memorial stone in the eighth pylon of the Karnak temple titled Ahmose I. it as " Queen Mother and Princess, the dignitaries gathered " and " mistress on the banks of the Hau - nebu ". For these actions, Ahhotep got I of Ahmose I received an honorary gold:

"Praise to the mistress of the country, the Princess of the shore countries Haunebet, of renown in any foreign country, the head of the people, the queen and king 's sister, princess and the king's mother, the beautiful; who knows the things that united Egypt, they gathered his dignitaries, they protected it, it brought back its refugees, they divided the opponents again; they pacified Upper Egypt and expelled its rebels, the Queen Ah - hotep, they live! "

Tomb

Ahhotep I. died approximately between the 16th and 22nd year of the reign of Ahmose I. So far, two sarcophagi were discovered that would come to them in question, but an unambiguous assignment is still controversial.

Dra Abu el- Naga

1859 found in Dra Abu el- Naga employees by Auguste Mariette, a grave -conditioning and a gilded Rishi Coffin with mummy, which contained many objects with the name of Ahmose I and also some objects with the name of Kamose. Among them were two model boats made of gold and silver, ornate Zeremonialäxte, a dagger made of gold and electron, pearl bracelets made of gold and lapis lazuli, Gold Jewellery, semi-precious stones, as well as the so-called "honor Gold" ( a pendant with three golden flies).

The site was not far from the locality from the sarcophagus with the mummy of Kamose. The mummy was thrown away by the excavators immediately after the discovery and is unfortunately now lost.

Traditionally, the coffin Ahhotep I. is assigned, but the assignment seems to be controversial. Doubtful in the assignment of this find to Ahhotep I. On the one hand, that nowhere is the title King's Mother. Secondly, the sarcophagus belongs to the older Rishi Coffin group (such as the coffins of Seqenenre, Anjotef V. and VI Anjotef. ), But the mother of Ahmose I only died between the 16 and 22 years of age. Moreover, only objects with the name of the Kamose, however, have not been found by Seqenenre.

Claude Vandersleyen has this coffin Ahhotep II, who suspected wife of Kamose to. The weapons found he sees as a sign of the times that would also match the warlike activities Kamoses.

Deir el- Bahari

Another coffin with the name Ahhoteps was found a few years later in the Deir el- Bahari. This is to a younger Rishi Coffin type that fits into the group of coffins of Ahmose Nefertari and Ahmose - Meritamun - II. It contained the mummy of Pinudjem I and II Ahhotep was traditionally assigned ( as the wife of Amenhotep I ) .. On the coffin this Ahhotep is titled as ( Great) king's mother, however, Amenhotep I. had already Meritamun Ahmose II as a wife and from him are aware of any other children. After Vandersleyen this coffin seems therefore more likely to belong to Ahhotep I..
