Åhléns

Åhléns, former name Åhlén & Holm, is Sweden's largest department store chain. Owner of the company is the Axel Johnson AB, owned by Antonia Ax again: son Johnson.

Åhlén & Holm started out as a mail order house in Insjön in Sweden Dalarna. The company was founded in 1899 by Johan Petter Åhlén and Erik Holm. The first product was a picture of the Swedish king which was sold over 100,000 copies. Åhlén & Holm prospered and moved to Stockholm in 1915, where Johan Petter Åhlén a building with seven floors and 10,000 square meters of retail space at Ringvägen the Södermalm district had built. According to a study trip to the U.S. Åhlén decided a department store chain, the pace department stores to start with uniform, low prices. The first house of this kind was opened in Stockholm in 1932 at Östermalmstorg. In 1939, Johan Petter Åhlén died.

Later, in 1960, we ended the engagement in the mail and concentrated on the tempo chain. 1964 Parade department store was opened in central Stockholm, architect was the renowned company Backstroem & Reinius. In 1970, the Tempo department store chain along with the competitors EPA. The Nobel department store Nordiska Kompaniet, NK, was also briefly part of the Group ( 1976-83 ).

1985, all stores were converted to Åhléns Åhléns and since 1988 is a part of Axel Johnson AB. 1997 Åhléns had 97 stores in Sweden, making it Sweden's largest and only department store chain with the structure and the range of the "classic" department store.
