Ahlspiess

The Ahlspieß, (English Awl - Pike ) is a late medieval polearm from Germany, Austria and Switzerland from the 15th century.

Description

The Ahlspieß has a straight, thin, four -edged blade. The blade is attached with a nozzle and spring on the shaft. The blade is made wide at the junction of the shaft springs and narrows to the site. The place is diamond- shaped. Below the blade a round or octagonal Parierscheibe is most appropriate. The Ahlspieß was first used in Germany, Switzerland and Bohemia. It was designed to be easier to penetrate the increasingly sophisticated plate armor. He was temporarily used as a dueling weapon. Ahlspieße remained until about the 17th century in use. There are different versions, which vary in length and configuration.
