Ahmad I ibn Mustafa

Ahmad I. al -Husayn († 1855) was Bey of Tunis ( 1837-1855 ).

I. Ahmad took over the government of Mustafa al -Husayn ( 1835-1837 ). Under him the country's modernization, the first focused on the army and the fleet began. In addition, slavery was abolished in 1846 and lifted restrictions on Jews. For other measures, the economic strength of the country was not enough, that was considerably weakened by the outbreak of several cholera epidemics. Successor of Ahmad I.
