Ahmad ibn Rustah

Ahmad ibn Rustah (also Ebn Rosta and the like; persian احمد ابن رسته اصفهانی, Aḥmad ibn DMG grates Esfahani ) was a Persian astronomer and geographer of the 10th century AD Ibn Rustah has made some trips and a compendium of his travel experiences and written about the reports of other travelers. These reports informed him even on the Heptarchy in England and the British Isles. He was born in the city of Isfahan ( Persia ), which he describes in great detail.

Beginning of his compendium

First, Ibn Rustah narrates in his compendium, a description of heaven and cited for this included Arab astronomers known as Albumasar. Then he very accurately describes the two main cities of Islam, Mecca and Medina, where he has at least traveled Medina itself.

Description of the tribe Rus

Unlike Ibn Fadlan Ibn Rustah asserts that the Rus were a relatively clean-looking people. In general, they are also described as a particularly brave tribe.

The information Ibn Rustahs to the Rus came probably partly from a trip to Novgorod.

Other Reports

About the King of the ancient Croatian writes Ibn Rustah that he was hosting a three -day feast in his capital Drzvab every month.

A king in the Caucasus is said to have prayed with believers of the three Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism and Islam), although all three religions view as the only true religion in order to " play it safe ".

Except about his home city of Isfahan, he also writes extensively on other parts of Persia and their trade routes.

Even Ibn Rustah has traveled to other parts of the Arabian Peninsula except to Medina, including to Sana'a, which he described as a highly populated city with a great fame, which is larger than all the cities in the coastal region of Tihama and the western Arab region Hejaz, where he also praises especially the quality of food. The houses were, according to Ibn Rustah with plaster, fired brick brick or hewn stone covered.

More or less detail he describes Byzantium (especially its capital, Constantinople Opel ), Rome, India and the people of Hungary.
