Ahmed Ounaies

Ahmed Ounaes (* 1936) is a Tunisian diplomat and politician. He was on 27 January 2011, after the revolution in Tunisia 2010/2011, to February 13, 2011 Foreign Minister of his country.

Ounaes had to resign because he effusively praised the French Foreign Minister Michele Alliot -Marie during a joint appearance. He referred to them as " friend of Tunisia " and love to listen to her " under all circumstances and at all lecterns ." Shortly before it was revealed that Alliot -Marie had used the private jet of a businessman for their holidays, who was close to the ousted president Ben Ali. In addition, Alliot -Marie Ben Ali had offered French help shortly before his flight from Tunisia. As a result, there were massive protests of the Tunisian diplomats in respect of which Ounaes finally had to resign.
