Ahmet Bilek

Ahmet Bilek (* 1932 in Kula, Manisa, † October 5, 1970 in Saarbrücken, Germany ) was a Turkish wrestler. He was Olympic champion in 1960 in Rome in free style flyweight.

Career

Ahmet Bilek began as a large part of the Turkish top wrestler as a youngster in Eskişehir with the Turkish national sport of oil wrestling. Even at a young age he found his way to the Olympic rings, and quickly developed into the Ringer Club " Demirspor " Eskişehir an excellent wrestler in two styles. In 1950 he was age 17 at it, as a selected team Izmir / Eskişehir wrestled against the German national team. He was defeated at that time against Henry Weber ( Ringer, 1923) from Göppingen just on points. Against Weber he was defeated in 1952 in an official international match on points.

In 1953 he was at the World Championships in Greco-Roman. Style in Naples used flyweight. He proposed a fully equal, won et al about the strong wrestler Pârvulescu Dumitru from Romania and Ignazio Fabra of Italy and failed in the final battle just short of the Soviet Olympic champion of 1952 Boris Gurevich.

In the coming years, Ahmet stagnated somewhat and could not prevail against the strong competitors in their own country, such as Dursun Ali Egribas, Hüseyin Akbaş and Mehmet Kartal. In 1959 he was re- Turkish flyweight champion. At the World Championships the same year in Tehran in free style, he again won the silver medal. He remained unbeaten while, but two indecisive battles against Mohammad Ali Khojastepour from Iran and Ali Aliyev from the Soviet Union cost him the world title.

However, his big moment came at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. He won five fights and was achieved despite a defeat against Ali Aliyev Olympic champion.

In 1963 he started in Helsingborg one last time at a World Cup. This time he stepped in the Graeco-Roman. Style, but could not prevail and only came also the 8th Place.

After Ahmet Bilek went into the Federal Republic of Germany and fought for many years for the motor sports club Köllerbach in the German Bundesliga. After health problems he committed suicide in 1970.

Ahmet Bilek was married and had a daughter.
