Ã…hus

Aahus is a town in the Swedish province of Skåne County and the historical province Scania.

The town in the municipality of Kristianstad situated on the River Helge å. In the summer, the population increases due to the many tourists up to three times.

History

Aahus was an important trading center in Denmark in the Middle Ages. In the 12th century, was built outside the town, the castle AOSé hus, probably coming from the Archbishop Eskil of Lund served as a refuge. Under the leadership of the Archdiocese of Lund Aahus experienced in the following centuries, a period of prosperity. Among other things, a city wall was built, which is still preserved in fragments of about 250 meters. Actually Aahus only received city rights in 1326, but the town clerk consider 1149 as the actual year of recognition, as Archbishop Eskil was awarded this year the city. At the time of the Reformation Aahus lost its importance again and was sacked several times. Especially under the campaigns of Gustavus Adolphus suffered the then Danish Aahus great harm. The castle fell into ruin. The low point was reached when Aahus 1617 after the Kalmar War, the city lost rights in favor of Kristianstad. 1658, the Peace of Roskilde, was the previously Danish Skåne, and thus Aahus, to Sweden. In 1929 Aahus again got the status of a market town ( Linköping ).

Economy

Today is manufactured in Aahus Absolut Vodka. Aahus Glass, an ice cream company, was known nationally before its closure. There are numerous medium-sized manufacturing and trading enterprises, such as Atelje - Lyktan ( lighting fixtures) and Blå Station ( Designer furniture). Because of the picturesque townscape and the extensive beaches in the town itself ( Äspet and Täppet ) and in the immediate vicinity ( Yngsjö, Nyehusen, Furuboda etc. ), the city has become a tourist attraction, now a very important industry.

Structures

On the town's market is the Aahus Museum. Northwest thereof is going back to the 12th century St. Mary 's Church. Close to the harbor lies the castle ruins AOSé hus. From the monastery Aahus is still a wall preserved. Noteworthy is east of the ruins of the St. Anne's Chapel been imputed stone sarcophagus. From the early 17th century half-timbered house Kungsstugan comes. About the Helge å leads the resulting 1908 Old Äspetbrücke. To the west of the old town are several operated by the home club of St Anna Gille historic buildings.
