The Aida Diva is a cruise ship of Carnival Corporation & plc. It is used for driving under the specially focused on the German market corporate brand AIDA Cruises. It is operated under the Italian flag by Costa Crociere in Genoa.

It is the first of seven largely identical vessels of the "Sphinx " class. At the time of entry into the Aida Diva was the largest ship of AIDA Cruises. Typical of the brand paint with mouth, eyes and eyeliner was designed by the graphic artist Feliks Büttner already in 1996.

History

Construction and conversion

After the restructuring of the Group in the course of the merger of the American Carnival Corporation with the British P & O Princess Cruises to the AIDA brand belonged until then, looked at the newly established world leader in the European, mainly exploited but also the German market as far too little. In addition to the transmission from the British to the American group part, an extensive building program for AIDA Cruises was decided under the operational responsibility of the Italian subsidiary, Costa Crociere. In October 2004, the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, therefore, was commissioned (Emsland ) with the initial construction on two new, much larger AIDA cruise ships. The " club ships " third generation should allow to 68,500 GT almost twice the number of cabins and to be delivered in April 2007 and April 2009.

With the cutting of the first steel plate began on 25 October 2005 under the project name AIDA SPHINX I of the construction of the yet unnamed cruise ship. The keel of the hull number S.659 was held in Papenburg on 3 March 2006. On this occasion, the final name was announced. While the traditional coin ceremony, the winner of the name contest put a coin under the first of a total of 55 building blocks. After about eleven months of construction took place on 28 September 2006, the first floating of the ship.

After functional tests and engine trials were successfully completed, the Aida Diva left on March 4, 2007, the covered building dock and was transferred to the outfitting quay, where it was expanded and eventually completed. The transfer of the vessel on the Ems Emden took place on 10 March 2007. Use

Machinery, propulsion and operation and maintenance

The Aida Diva is equipped with a diesel-electric machinery, used in the four diesel generators as a power plant and supply the entire ship with electrical energy. All electrical systems, the propulsion system and the monitoring devices were designed and built by Siemens. To ensure maximum reliability, the machine and drive systems independent groups are technically and spatially in two divided and equipped with extensive monitoring equipment ( Ship Automation System " SISHIPCIS PAX ").

Energy supply

For the motors with which the main generators are driven, it is long-stroke, medium-speed 9-cylinder 4- stroke diesel engines of type Caterpillar MaK 9M43C with an output of 9,000 kW (approx. 12,140 hp). They can be operated with low-sulfur diesel or heavy fuel oil and produce under all operating conditions barely visible exhaust. Each engine is 10 feet long, 6 feet tall and weighs about 126 tons. In a machine utilization of 85 %, the Aida Diva consumes about 140 tons of fuel per day.

The four Siemens main generators produce an electrical power output of 12,000 kVA and power the entire ship via two 11 kV switchgear and eight distribution transformers ( power: 1000-3500 kVA) with electrical energy.

Drive

The Aida Diva is equipped with a conventionally constructed power plant. The two propeller motors are 3- phase synchronous machines of the type Siemens 1DM5650 - 8DS06 -Z, which transmit a power of 12,400 kW ( 16,900 hp approx ) via a shaft system on 5-blade fixed pitch propeller. Each propeller has a diameter of 5.2 meters and a weight of about 13.2 tons. With a maximum speed of 130 rpm, the ship has a maximum speed of 21 knots.

For maneuvering in ports and at low speeds, two transverse thrusters with a power of 2,300 kW ( 3,100 hp) and 1,500 kW (approx. 2,040 hp) are installed in the bow and stern. About a dynamic positioning, the ship is able to maintain a predetermined position accurately.

Bridge

For the navigation, control and monitor the operation of the ship Aida Diva is equipped with a so-called "integrated bridge system ". Safety devices
