Aignan of Orleans

Aignan of Orléans or Anianus of Orléans ( in Vienne *, † 453 ) was a bishop of Orléans and is a saint of the Catholic Church. His feast day is 17 November and June 14 ( transfer of his remains ).

Aignan was born of noble parents. He is said to have first lived as a hermit at Vienne, but then the call of the Holy Evurtius after Aurelianum (modern Orléans ) be followed. He is said to have been ordained and have become head of the monastery of St. Lawrence in a suburb of Orléans. 391 he followed then Evurtius on the chair of the bishop of Orléans. When the Huns under Attila had advanced to Orléans and besieged it, he is said to have preached faith in God and prayed for help, but have not sent even after the military aid of the Romans. When the Romans were able to defeat under Aetius with the allies, the Visigoths, the Huns, this has been attributed to at least the same degree Aignan.

His death is traditionally scheduled for 17 November 453. He was initially buried in the church of St. Lawrence, but eventually in the church of St. Peter in 1259 under Louis IX. transferred to the saints. During the Wars of his relics were burned, however, in 1562 by the Protestant side.
