Aigurande

Aigurande is a commune with 1534 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Indre in the Centre region; it belongs to the district of La Chatre and Canton Aigurande.

Geography

Aigurande located 26 kilometers southeast of La Chatre, north of Bouzanne, which rises in the municipality. The municipality belongs to the Association of Municipalities Marche Berrichonne.

Etymology

The town's name derives from the Gallic word " Equoranda ", which refers to a river which separated two Gallic tribes, namely the Lemovici and Bituriges ( from the province of Berry ) from each other.
