Aillon-le-Jeune

Aillon -le- Jeune is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Aillon -le- Jeune is located at 880 m above sea level. M., approximately 13 km east-northeast of the city of Chambéry (air line). The mountain village is located in the northwest of the Savoie département, in the massif of the Wallows, in a valley of the Ruisseau d' Aillon, between Mont Margériaz in the west and Grand Colombier in the east.

The area of ​​34.09 km ² municipal area includes a strong section in relief of the massif of the Wallows. History

Is first mentioned Aillon in 1158 under the name de Allione. Later, the spellings Domus de Allionis ( 1178 ), Allonis ( 1223 ) and Prioratus de Ayllone appeared ( in the 14th century). The place name comes from the personal name Allio or Allionis. In the secluded valley floor east of the village was in 1184 at the instigation of Humbert III. of Savoy founded the Carthusian monastery Aillon. The monks made ​​the valley cultivated, whereupon settled here settlers from the surrounding areas. The monastery was destroyed by fire in 1582 and destroyed in 1793 during the French Revolution.

In the valley developed since the 17th century, several forges and foundries, in which the iron ore extracted in the area has been processed. Population

With 439 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Aillon -le- Vieux is one of the small communities of the department of Savoie. After the population declined sharply in the first half of the 20th century, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1980s again.
