Aimé Barraud

Aimé Barraud ( born March 14, 1902 in La Chaux -de-Fonds, † February 14, 1954 in Neuchâtel, Switzerland ) was a Swiss painter who is associated with the New Objectivity.

Life

The seven children of the Barraud family - six sons and a daughter - were born around the turn of the century in La Chaux -de-Fonds in an environment that was characterized by the arts and crafts. Father, mother and the maternal grandfather worked as engravers and designed decorations for the metal housing of the pocket watches. Precision craftsmanship and a sense of the Decorative were cared for in the family, and the children occupied early evening classes at the local high- school of applied arts.

Barraud was limited to a small circle of topics. He created primarily portraits, including self-portraits as well as Doppelbildnisse of himself and his wife, nudes, still lifes and further isolated landscapes. Through accurate drawing and clear, smooth coated colors he scored a extreme degree of realism.
