Ainaro

Ainaro ( Vila de Ainaro ) is the capital of the East Timorese district, the sub-district and the Sucos.

The place

Ainaro located in the highlands of East Timor to 831 m above sea level, about 60 kilometers south of the provincial capital of Dili, in the center of the Sucos Ainaro, between the rivers Sarai and Maumall. The overland road from the southern coastal road to Dili runs through Ainaro. The distance to the relatively well-developed road is 78 km. In the village live 3,085 inhabitants ( 2006). The Suco

In Mau - Ulo also Kemak is spoken. In addition to the Catholic majority, there are minorities of Protestants and Muslims in the sub-district. 58 % of households grow cassava, 74% corn, 58 % coffee, 53 % vegetables, 27 % coconut and 11% rice.

History

1902 failed in Ainaro a rebellion against the Portuguese colonialists.

1912 attacked the insurgent Liurai Dom Boaventura during the rebellion of Manufahi the Portuguese military post in Ainaro to, but was repulsed with the assistance of Nai- Cau, the Liurai of Soro.
