Ainslie Embree

Ainslie Thomas Embree ( born 1921 ) is an American Indologist and historian.

Embree graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor's degree in 1941 and his doctorate in 1960. From 1948 to 1958 he taught at the Indore Christian College in India, after which he taught as a professor at Columbia University. He was several times to study in India ( as in 1963 and 1967) and director of the Southern Asian Institute at Columbia University. In 1991 he retired.

He was president of the American Association for Asian Studies and the American Institute for Indian Studies.
