Air Alps, proper spelling airA ps (at times even KLM Alps; legally AAA Air Alps Aviation )! , Is an Austrian regional airline based in Innsbruck and should be sold in 2014 of Rostock Airways.

History

Founding and first years

Air Alps was Air Engiadina (49% ) and their manager Dietmar Leitgeb ( 51%) as Air Alps Aviation Alpine Aviation GmbH was founded in 1998 with headquarters Igls / Innsbruck and went soon after an agreement with the Dutch KLM, as a result she appeared briefly under the name KLM Alps and also took part in the frequent flyer program Flying Dutchman. Flight operations began in 1999 with the acquisition of two Dornier 328 as KLM franchisees ( KLM Alps ) from Innsbruck or Salzburg to Amsterdam.

In 2000 came another three Dornier 328 fleet and Air Alps could make the route network around the joints Innsbruck - Vienna and Amsterdam - Expand Linz, or a ' mini hub ' in Klagenfurt open up new lines (both via Salzburg ) to Hamburg, Cologne and Amsterdam. Hamburg and Cologne, but were soon abandoned. Total Air Alps flew in 2000 with 68 flights per week from Austria to Amsterdam. Further, the headquarters was moved from the airport to the city, Dietmar Leitgeb took over the shares of Air Engiadina and there was a capital increase of € 2 million.

From the winter timetable 2000/2001 passed with Swissair ( and later its successor Swiss) a codeshare agreement on the newly established line Klagenfurt- Zurich and later in 2001 following Innsbruck - Zurich.

At the beginning of 2001, a new uniform was introduced and the routes Vienna - opens Zurich - Stuttgart or the already mentioned Innsbruck. In the spring had a € 34 million indebtedness, be registered as a seventh-largest bankruptcy of the country, the compensation. In the same year the ailing airline by a consortium of 28 South Tyrolean industrialist to the ham producer Franz Senfter (86 % 26 South Tyrolean investors 7% provincial public and 7 % Tyrol ) was taken over by Dietmar Leitgeb, who resigned as Air Alps CEO. The cooperation with Swissair / Swiss could no longer be maintained and Air Alps had to stop in the fall of 2001, all flights to Zurich.

2002 was the former Alitalia and Alpi Eagles Manager Dr. Aldo Bevilacqua new CEO and there was a realignment of the airline which is now Italy and South Tyrol should be at the center. It was followed by the opening of a base in Bolzano with the deployment of an aircraft and the planned shots of routes to Cagliari, Olbia, Naples and Lamezia Terme, in collaboration with Alitalia. In the summer of 2002 began a collaboration with Austrian Airlines on the route from Vienna to Banja Luka and opening its own routes from Vienna or Munich to Siena and Olbia. In the autumn, followed by lines from Rome to Stuttgart and Bern. With the acquisition of a sixth Dornier 328 of the expansion of the network could be pursued and the lines Parma to Rome and Olbia are opened. 2002 Air Alps thus operated with two Dornier 328 ex Innsbruck, two ex Salzburg, Linz and an ex an ex Bolzano.

In 2003, the airline again a new uniform and took over a seventh Dornier 328 (OE - LCF ) which further enhanced the network. In Bern, a new base was established and the lines Bern - ( also from Zurich) was added and Amsterdam in the summer of Elba. There were other lines from Stuttgart to Bologna and Lamezia Terme, Lamezia Terme and from Bolzano to Rome to Bolzano Tortoli. The collaboration with Alitalia was further deepened and it was planned including five more (two of them former Minerva ) Dornier 328-110 take over. The cooperation with the City Air on the route Berlin- Tegel - Linz - Salzburg but had to be stopped.

In 2003 there was a further capital increase to € 16 million this time and in 2004 launched the line Bolzano - Munich in cooperation with Lufthansa. It had this year the route Bologna - Lamezia Terme again be set, but there were plans to set up a base in Brescia.

Passenger numbers increased continuously from initially 72,000 (1999) to 180,000 (2000) and 190,000 (2001) and results achieved in 2002 then the number 400,000.

Development since 2009

On 4 June 2009 a compensation method on Air Alps was opened on the Innsbruck Regional Court. In December of the same year was taken over by Air Alps Welcome Air. This transaction took " Welcome Air " 76 percent and the remaining 24 percent remained in the hands of the South Tyrolean entrepreneur who Trentino-Alto Adige region and the South Tyrolean transport structures AG ( STA).

Air Alps presented because of financial difficulties on 13 January 2012 all air operations until further one. Welcome Air prompted further the entire air fleet Alps to Innsbruck to ask. The flight operation was canceled due to " operational reasons " - that among other things the flights for Bolzano, Rome, Milan, Parma, and Salerno. On February 1, 2012, the operations were resumed, but this time without our cooperation with Alitalia and at first only from Bolzano to Rome Fiumicino Airport. However, this route was discontinued and Air Alps led only sporadically charter flights. In June 2013, the airplane was shut down again and shut down the aircraft in Innsbruck.

On August 20, 2013, the final decision to liquidate was made by the owners. Previously, the search had failed for investors. End of October 2013 were released in the course of liquidation, all employees of Air Alps.

On February 3, 2014, the first machine was launched after the planned acquisition of Rostock Airways on its maiden flight from Bremen to Zurich. Immediately employees, the company again.

On February 22, however, it was announced that Air Alps will cease operation for Rostock Airways already February 28, due to infighting again.

Destinations

Air Alps offered regular flights from Bolzano, Parma to Rome Fiumicino Airport. In the summer months, Olbia in Sardinia has been connected with these two cities. In addition, charter flights were carried out to holiday destinations in and around Italy and the aircraft to other airlines, including Alitalia, for example, and Cirrus Airlines, used. Code Sharing
