History

Air Columbus was founded in 1989 by private investors in Lisbon. The Danish airline Sterling Airways had a 34 - percent stake in the company and is a Boeing 727-200, flight operations began on the route from Faro to London Gatwick by on October 5, 1989. The economic downturn of the company continued in July 1993 after Air Columbus lost one of its main clients through the bankruptcy of the German tour operator MP Travel Line. As a result, the Company announced in August 1993 shortly into a lease agreement for a Boeing 757-200.
