Air (French band)
Air is a French band whose style is usually referred to as a synth pop and electronica. The name Air (French for " song, aria "; " song -like instrumental", "air" ) is, according to keyboardist and singer Jean -Benoît Dunckel for Amour, Imagination et Rêve ( German "Love, Fantasy and Dream" ).
History
Air was founded in 1995 by Nicolas Godin and Jean -Benoit " JB " Dunckel.
JB and Nicolas played earlier in the band Orange, with Alex Gopher and Xavier Jamaux. The tour manager was Étienne de Crécy. So it's no surprise that these names come up again and again in connection with remixes by Air. In February 2005, the band received the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture, the French Order of Arts and Letters.
In September 2006, the album was released in 5:55 the singer Charlotte Gainsbourg, whose music of Air in collaboration with Jarvis Cocker (Pulp ), Neil Hannon ( Divine Comedy ) and producer Nigel Godrich composed and was recorded. Cocker and Hannon singing on the album Pocket Symphony of 2007.
The first solo album by Jean -Benoît Dunckel called Darkel was released in September 2006.
In 2010, she contributed the soundtrack to the movie Familiar Strangers by director Sam Garbarski.
Style
Uses many old analog synths such as the Korg MS -20 and equipment from Moog. Also, Wurlitzer and Vocoder are regularly used. The result is a quiet, gentle, dreamy songs with unusual sound structures.
Air also play live their instruments, often present the well-known tracks from the albums as extended or altered versions. Work for both live performances and studio recordings Air often with their artist friends together, like Beth Hirsch ( Moon Safari ), Françoise Hardy ( Jeanne ), Jean -Jacques Perrey (Cosmic Bird), Gordon Tracks ( Thomas Mars of the band Phoenix) ( Playground Love and Easy Going Woman), Beck ( 10,000 Hz Legend), on the talkie Walkie tour with Dave Palmer and drummer Earl Harvin and on the current tour with Earl Harvin, Vincent Taurelle and Steve Jones.
