Air Medal

The Air Medal is a military award of the U.S. Armed Forces.

This decoration was instituted on May 11, 1942, Franklin D. Roosevelt and is awarded for outstanding contributions in the course of flight operations. You may be given retroactive effect to 8 September 1939.

Multiple awards were temporarily marked with service stars and to 22 November 1989 and is currently playing from 27 September 2006, small gold Arabic numerals on the ribbon. The Air Medal may be awarded also quite common, so it has, for example, David Haskell Hackworth 34 times and Joseph W. Ralston received 20 times.

In the Order of Precedence this award ranks among the Meritorious Service Medal and the Aerial Achievement Medal and the Commendation Medals.
