Air Niugini

Air Niugini is the largest airline of Papua New Guinea, based in Port Moresby and base at the airport Port Moresby.

History

The airline was founded in 1973 as " National Airline of Papua New Guinea ".

The 1990s were economically for the airline through a difficult period, which was only overcome after 2000.

On September 22, 2011, announced that the government of Papua New Guinea has a merger with Airlines PNG, the second largest airline in the country approved.

Destinations

Air Niugini operated in addition to numerous destinations within Papua New Guinea and some international destinations in Oceania and Asia, including Sydney, Hong Kong and Manila.

  • The word Niugini comes from the language Tok Pisin, the lingua franca of the country, and means Guinea.
  • Company logo is a red bird of paradise, the heraldic animal of Papua New Guinea.
