Air Siam

Air Siam (IATA Code: VG) was the second Thai airline that international flights (eg Bangkok - Hong Kong - Tokyo -Honolulu - Los Angeles ) offered. The airline was founded in 1965 as a rival to the then government- Thai Airways International, the flight operations began in 1969 / 1970.

History

There was a colorful aircraft fleet, which was composed of purchased and leased aircraft. Here, among others, the second ever used A300, or the first Thai DC-10 used. This DC-10 had 328 seats with the world's highest seating for this type of aircraft.

The Thai government preferred for international connections, the Thai Airways International. That's why Air Siam were laid by Thai authorities repeatedly hurdles. The problems culminated in 1974 that the planned connection to Los Angeles in 1975 could be operated with a DC-10.

Economic difficulties culminated in September 1976 on the setting of flight operations and on 4 February 1977 bankruptcy.

It came below aircraft used. It was not lost by machine crash. That all could be resold (eg at the Israeli Air Force ), or have been returned after the expiration of the lease term ( eg Airbus ).
