Aircraft Transport and Travel

Aircraft Transport and Travel Limited (AT & T) was a British airline. The company was founded in 1916 resulted in 1919 as the first company scheduled flights between Paris and London. 1921, the operation was discontinued for economic reasons.

History

Aircraft Transport and Travel was founded on October 5, 1916 by George Holt Thomas. The fleet initially consisted of former military aircraft of the type Airco DH4A with which flights between Folkestone and Ghent were performed. Despite the lack of support from the British government, the company undertook on July 15, 1919 on a trial basis a passenger transport between the military airfield at Hendon London and Paris -Le Bourget. The Airco DH9 reached their destination after two and a half hours.

The following month, AT & T took on the regular service between the two cities with a DH16. The first flight on 25 August 1919, the first international scheduled flight. In November, an airmail service between Hawkinge in Kent and Cologne was launched with six acquired by the Royal Air Force Airco DH9A. The aircraft arrived in 1920 again into the possession of the British forces.

In addition to connecting London to Paris Hounslow AT & T set up in May 1920 a further scheduled flights between the airport London - Croydon and Amsterdam. For those carried out on behalf of KLM flights DH16 were used.

By 1921, the number of companies offering flights between London and Paris went on three British and three French. In protest against the subsidies received by the French manufacturers, the British ended on February 28, 1921 its scheduled service between the cities. Shortly after AT & T introduced its operation completely one. The aircraft were assigned or sold.
