Airlie Beach, Queensland

Airlie Beach is a tourist center of Australia with 2,751 inhabitants. It lies on the east coast of Australia in the state of Queensland between Cairns and Brisbane. In the immediate vicinity are the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. Airlie Beach is located at approximately the same latitude as Tahiti and impresses with its pleasant tropical climate. The place is located in the local government area ( LGA) Whitsunday region.

Economy

The economy is mainly based on Airlie Beach's tourism. In the city there are plenty of accommodation options for every budget. But the dominant group are the backpackers. Along the main street there are countless travel agencies offer one-day or multi-day sailing trips to the islands. Also, many people take the opportunity to learn to dive here.

Access to the sea is, however, associated in Airlie Beach with special hazards. The airport of Airlie Beach, the Whitsunday Coast Airport, is located about 40 kilometers west of Airlie Beach. From here there are regular flights to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. For regional air transport between the islands and Airlie Beach or fly over the Great Barrier Reef or the Whitsundays, the Airlie Beach located between and Shut Harbour aerodrome Whitsunday Airport offers. Also, this is the best way to fly over the famous Heart Reef.
