Airman Battle Uniform

The Airman Battle Uniform, ABU short, is the current combat uniform of the U.S. Air Force. The uniform is currently in the implementation phase and to replace troops until 2011 completely the old battle dress. The ABU was developed as part of the armed forces wide development of combat uniforms.

History

The first prototype of the ABU was unveiled in summer 2003. This first prototype consisted of trousers, embroidered vests and a blouse. The camouflage pattern were blue, not digital tiger stripe.

After a test phase in which the uniform was worn by Air Force personnel, revised to the camouflage pattern and the color palette. The new digital tiger stripe pattern now used a less - prominent blue color palette. In October 2007, the U.S. Air Force has begun to issue the ABU to Airmen in basic training, and since June 2008 is the uniform for the rest of the troops available.

The ABU should be male and female, available in 236 different sizes. The cost per uniform amount to about 81 U.S. dollars.
